Matthew W. Woodruff joined Rich & Intelisano, LLP the predecessor firm of Rich, Intelisano & Katz, LLP, in January 2009. He has over 25 years of experience in international and domestic arbitration and litigation.
Mr. Woodruff has represented individual and corporate investors as chief trial counsel in numerous securities arbitrations before FINRA, the New York Stock Exchange and the American Arbitration Association. Representative matters have included claims arising out of transactions in equities, options, commodities, limited partnerships (“hedge funds”), fixed-income and foreign exchange, as well as issues arising with respect to employment, tenant-in-common real estate investments, broker-dealer regulation and compliance.
In commercial arbitration, Mr. Woodruff has been engaged in the resolution of disputes involving commercial real estate, petroleum trading and a variety of international transactions governed by the Convention on International Sale of Goods. He has initiated and conducted arbitration proceedings in London, Switzerland, Spain and the former Soviet Union, including the coordination of domestic civil proceedings with foreign criminal investigations.
In domestic litigation, Mr. Woodruff has conducted jury and bench trials in state and federal court and has represented individuals and corporations in the prosecution and defense of claims involving securities and commodities fraud, trade finance, and cross-border insolvencies. He has appeared numerous times before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the New York Appellate Division, in motion practice before the New York Court of Appeals, and in certiorari practice before the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Woodruff received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School and is an honors graduate of the University of Chicago. He began practice as an associate attorney at Lord, Day & Lord, Barrett Smith and at Becker, Glynn, Melamed & Muffly, LLP. Prior to joining Rich & Intelisano, Mr. Woodruff was chief trial counsel at Eppenstein & Eppenstein. He lives in New York City with his wife and two children and is an active member of local bar associations.
